Almost Saturday!

Alright boys and girls we have another wonderful week of college football ahead of us. It's already shaking up to be another good one with Pitt (somehow) beating USF. I'm going to open up my hate mailbox now:

1) The Terps aren't that good, and Maryland fans are starting to creep up there with Philadelphia fans in my book. They're annoying and need to settle down. You wanna know who else beat two ranked teams? East Carolina and look how well they've been doing in the past 2 weeks.

2) No team other than USC is really that good in the PAC-10 so I don't want to hear how beating someone in the PAC ten automatically gives you bonus points (This is in concurrence with Duve's previous comment about UGA on this one)

3) The ACC sucks now. Period. (There's a little College BBall frustration in there being a UCONN fan and all)

4) The SEC is a better conference than the Big 12. Oklahoma Beats 'Bama, LSU beats Missouri, UGA beats UT (ok that's arguable so we'll have to see how UGA fares this weekend) FL, Kentucky, Auburn, and Miss. in my opinion beat the next top four teams in the Big 12. What, are you going to throw someone like Nebraska at me? Yeah they've won a couple games but come on. They haven't had a winning season in 10 years(not sure on this, but it's been a long time) That's like when Redskins fans tell me they're making it to the Super Bowl this year. Come on guys you had an OK season last year, but other than that...not so much in the past decade.

5) If UCONN wins out the season, beating both USF and Pitt they are deserving for a BSC game

Let the hating commence!

1) Terps did lose to an FCS team and barely beat another FCS team at home...then they beat a mediocre (at best) Pac-10 team at home and rally past one of the biggest disappointments in the FBS - Clemson. Basically, I agree w your first point.

2) I like your second point, because it's anti-Pac 10 and it gives me a shoutout.

3) Maybe the ACC should give up it's auto BCS berth to the Mountain West?

4) TOTALLY FALSE. Nebraska does have arguably one of the best home field advantages in college sports and yet lost to VT last weekend, but Nebraska is coming off it's first losing season in 40 years. (Who's counting right?)

(a) Since 2000 the Big XII has won two BCS titles and the SEC three - pretty even over all.

(b) Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Texas Tech all still have legit chances at the BCS title this year (some better than others - but still chances). After early loses, you're down to Alabama and LSU for the SEC, but the Big XII will start to thin in conference play as the SEC already has done (note last week).

(c) Additionally, both conferences have six teams in the top 25, including a number of highly ranked teams (though Big XII has more top 10 teams now, though that can change given point b).

(d) Alright, overall pretty even and not as lopsided as some are trying to make it seem. What's the tipping point? Look at the quarterbacks in the Big XII ranked nationally by QB rating through the first quarter of the season:

Rk. Player Team
2 Colt McCoy Texas
3 Sam Bradford Oklahoma
4 Chase Daniel Missouri
5 Zac Robinson Okla. St.
8 Josh Freeman Kansas St.
10 Robert Griffin Baylor
16 Joe Ganz Nebraska
18 Todd Reesing Kansas
20 Graham Harrell Texas Tech
25 Jerrod Johnson Texas A&M

Good luck SEC matching that...point Big XII

What to go all you geniuses that had USF in the top 10. I knew they'd loose to an unranked team- just not Pitt.

Although I am not close enough to Maryland to have that much disdain for them, I agree they are highly overrated-

Pac-10 Sucks- 'nuff said.

I believe that all conferences should lose automatic bids to the BCS that way there would be fewer teams getting to those bowls that shouldn't. (i.e. Hawaii in '08, Wake Forest in '07, Pitt in '05, and every time Notre Dame has been selected). I propose that the top 10 to 12 teams in the last BCS rankings go with a concerted effort to match-up old rivalries that are not in the championship.

I am not going to argue too strongly either way for which conference is better. Clearly the SEC was stronger last year, maybe the year before too, but it is not as clear this year. I think they are both head and shoulders above any other conference.

Looking forward to Saturday!

WHOA! The Irish undeserving of being in a BCS game!? I find that hard to believe! (Please ignore scores for the Fiesta Bowl x2 and Sugar Bowl)
