Wright then lined a 2-1 pitch just inside the right-field line, raising his fist when the ball dropped in. The New York Mets star called the hit the biggest of his career."You're talking about representing the United States of America," he said. "You've got that across the front of your chest. To be able to get that hit, that's got to be right up there at the top of the list."Wright was mobbed by teammates near second base after two runs scored."You're celebrating a game," Youkilis said. "You're celebrating a nation."
After all the scandal and problems in MLB, it's just great to see some perspective. For reference, the quoted article is here.

The WBC is a good effort, but it will never be akin to sccer's World Cup or basketball andckey at the Olympics. Hckey even has the World Championships, which isn't seen as a big deal in this country but certainly is in Europe.
It's hard to have a tournament like this in baseball. Puerto Rico mercy-ruled Team USA, then the Americans came back in the next game to win the thriller. (The fact that there's a mercy rule already discredits the tournament.)
Even the World Series Champion will lose 60 games over the course of a six month MLB season. I don't think having a short tournament like the WBC really shows that one nation plays better baseball than another.
Attendance is paltry, rivaling home games for the Marlins and Devil Rays. It's no coincidence that Miami - the second worst sports town in America to Atlanta - is hosting many of the games.
The WBC is esssentially just spring training.
